Illinois, California, Delaware, Connecticut, Maine, Washington state and New York make Sexual Harassment Prevention in the workplace training a legal requirement. In addition, the cities of Chicago and New York City have much stricter (additional) ordinances that apply to employees working in those cities. States and cities that require this training by law and ordinance apply stiff penalties to employers who do not annually satisfy the law. Employers are required to maintain records and proof of each employee's training.
All other states strongly recommend employers, and independent contractors provide their employees with a structured Sexual Harassment Prevention training program annually.
